Many people who work in hospice believe that their work is a "calling." That doesn't mean there aren't moments when the work is difficult, tiring, and emotionally draining.
So how can a hospice professional (nurses, social workers, chaplains, physicians, administrators, etc.) keep burnout and compassion fatigue from effecting their career in the long term? The answer is self care.
In this episode, Helen & Jerry discuss the self care needs of the hospice professional. Self care is taking care of yourself so you can take care of others. The purpose of self-care is to restore and refresh our mind, body and emotions, so that we are able to continue serving others at our full potential.
